Hey folks -
Thanks for the great response - while its a ways away, i think we have a solid start.
Here's a quick recap of where the league will stand:
Teams - 14 teams; currently we have 11 slots confirmed or tentative, and we can identify additional folks as we get closer to the season. Confirmed: me, Silvio (San Francisco unicorn), Toby (prefers older women), Galen (teamsters), Eric Garcia (teamsters), Mark Ernest (Teamsters); Brett Cooper (NEA); Jon (Brooklyn); Pete (New Jersey); Matt (New Jersey)
Holding 2 spots for tentative folks: Brendan (via Toby & Galen) and Ian (New Jersey).
That said, great group of idiot/fantasy football savants, most enjoy trash talk.
League details:
All of this will be subject to change and discussion but here's where we are at moment.
Platform - ESPN
Draft - Auction style; for those who have never done before, each team will have a budget, and can bid on players based on what they have in the bank in a frantic bid system for each player nominated. Auctions usually go faster than traditional drafts, and budgeting your cash on hand is key to fill out a roster.
Dues - $100 per team
Playoffs - 8 teams; 2 division winners get top two seeds (no byes), and remaining spots decided by W-L record.
Payouts - First - $800; 2nd - $200; 3rd - $125; 4th - $75; 2 division winners would also receive $100 payout plus top 2 seeds in playoffs. I also believe 3rd/4th deserve a little something if they win a first round playoff match up, but again defer to league.
Scoring - Silvio suggested .5 points per reception, which I'm ok with, but thinking all TDs be worth 6 points each. Will include additional bonus points for reaching benchmark rushing/receiving/passing yards (within reason). Also, team defenses; sorry Garcia, i hate IDP
Trades - Unlimited, but with a review that allows a vote if its really egregious. If ESPN allows, I would also consider allowing trades for auction salary for future drafts (ie owner trades his stud WR this year for XX dollars towards his budget in following year's draft).
Keepers - 2 keepers per year and you can keep a player for two successive offseasons but that player will cost the owner $10 more each year from what he was originally purchased for in initial draft (ie an owner drafts Eli Manning in 2016 for $55; in 2017, to keep Eli, the owner must pay $65; and in 2018, to keep Eli, he must pay $75 out of his auction draft budget). we should also consider some rules surrounding keeper eligibility, but always open to discuss.
That's all for now, but i'm sure i'll have more to say down the road.
