2017 Survey Results - 6 New Changes for 2018

Owners –

Thanks to all of you for your fast turnaround on the proposed league changes for 2018 – really impressed we did this all within 24 hours! In total, we had 16 potential changes, some of which were legit and some were spite filled (Silvio).

Most importantly, 78% of you told me you like my weekly recaps and 93% of you read some or all of them! This makes me happy…

In any case, 16 proposals and 6 actually passed with a 7th ultimately ending up at a tied 7-7 vote (meaning its failed). Also, I included an exploratory expansion of the league, mostly for guidance and it was split evenly: 6 yes, 7 no, 1 maybe. I’m not really thinking its worth it currently but wanted to gauge the temperature of owners. In any case, we should all get use to each other because we are back together again next season as all 14 owners have committed to the 2018 season (thanks guys!).

In any case, here are the 6 rule changes that have been adopted in the league for next season:

· Change Quarterback scoring from 1 point per 25 yards to .2 points per 5 yards;

· Allow Defensive 2 point conversions to count as two points for defense;

· Eliminate the ESPN "Do not drop" list of players for next season;

· Start the bidding on free agent on the waiver wire at $1;

· Allow teams to trade for/away the following season's Auction Draft dollars for players in the current season; and,

· Move the keeper date to two weeks before the league draft.

For trading auction dollars rule, I’d request input on crafting the specifics from anyone with thoughts, so don’t be shy. I’ve included all proposals and votes below for your review but let me know if you have any questions.

Summary

League Scoring Change Proposals

· Quarterback scoring: Change scoring from 1 point per 25 yards to .2 points per 5 yards? (Mark Ernst) – PASSED (57.1% Support)

· Defensive Scoring: Change Defensive points allowed to as follows - 0 points for 28-34 points allowed, -5 points for 35-45 points allowed, and -10 points for 46+ points allowed. Currently, defensive scoring for points allowed is as follows: -5 for 28-34 points allowed, -10 for 35-45 points allowed, and -15 for 46+ points allowed. Do you support change (Brett Cooper) – FAILED (64.3% Oppose)

· Defensive Scoring: To confirm, allow defensive 2 point conversions to count as two points for defense. (Silvio Maraccaci and Mark Ernst) – PASSED (85.7% Support)

Roster Moves

· Currently, rosters are set at 15 spots, including 6 bench players and one IR spot. Two differing proposals have been put forward, one to add a 7th bench spot (Eric Garcia) and one to eliminate one bench spot (Dan). Which proposal - or leave the bench spots at 6 - do you support? – BOTH PROPOSALS FAIL (64.3% Oppose Both)

· Currently, the league is set up to allow one flex position, but a proposal has been put forward to add a second Flex spot to starting lineups next season (Dan). Do you support or oppose? – FAILED (50% Each)

Free Agent Acquisitions

· A proposal has been put forward to eliminate the ESPN "Do not drop" list of players for next season (Brett Cooper) - do you support or oppose this proposal? – PASS (71.4% Support)

· Two proposals have been put forward for initial free agent acquisition bids - the first is to start the cost at $0 to add a free agent (Silvio Markachi), and the second is to start the bidding at $1 (Mark Ernst). Currently, free agent acquisitions begin at $5 bids. (Note: both proposals would not eliminate bidding on prospective free agents; they simply would be initial cost to bid on a player) - $1 FA BID PASSES (64.3% Support)

· A proposal has been submitted to prohibit any teams no longer in the winner's bracket of the playoff postseason (ie eligible to win the league championship) from adding free agents on the waiver wire for match-ups in Weeks 14 through 16 (Silvio Marcochee). Currently, any owner can make a free agent acquisition at any time. – FAIL (71.4% Oppose)

Trades

· Trade Deadline: A proposal has been put forward to move the league trade deadline up to coincide with the NFL trade deadline (Dan). The 2017 NFL deadline was October 31st (week 8); our league deadline was November 30th (week 12). – FAIL (85.7% Oppose)

· Trade Vetoes: Two proposals have been put forward surrounding reviews of trades. The first would decrease the number of necessary votes to veto a trade to 9 within 24 hours of an agreed upon trade (Brett Cooper); the second would eliminate league veto powers of trades (John Morabito). Currently, ten votes are required to veto a trade amongst league owners. – BOTH PROPOSALS FAIL (42.9% Oppose Both; 35.7% Support Decrease to 9; 21.4% Support Eliminating Veto Power of Owners)

· Trades for future Draft Dollars: A proposal has been put forward to allow teams to be eligible to trade for/away the following season's Auction Draft dollars for players in the current season (Dan). For example, Owner A could trade Antonio Brown to Owner B for $XX of Owner B's auction draft salary the following year. (If adopted, the league commissioner would send further clarifications and regulations surrounding such a proposal to owners for approval). Currently, each owner starts with $300 each season for the auction draft contingent upon keeper salaries. – PASS (57.1% Support)

Draft

· Auction Budgets: A proposal has been submitted to increase all non-playoff team budgets to $320 for the following season's draft and decrease all semifinalists' budgets to $280 for the following season's draft (Brett Cooper).Currently, each owner starts with $300 each season for the auction draft contingent upon keeper salaries. (Note: This proposal would not take effect until 2019 season) – FAIL (78.6% Oppose)

Keepers

· For the 2019 season, two proposals have been put forward for keepers, the first to decrease the number of keepers to 2 players per team (Brett Cooper) and the second is to increase the number of keepers to 4 players per team (Galen Munroe). In 2018, each team will be eligible to keep up to 3 players (as agreed upon by owners last year). Neither proposal would take effect until after 2018 if adopted. – FAIL (50% Oppose Both Proposals)

· A proposal has been put forward to move the keeper date to two weeks before the league draft (Brett Cooper). The current keeper deadline is August 1st every year; the proposal would fluctuate that deadline year over year but proper notification would be offered by the commissioner. – PASS (85.7% Support)

· Starting in the 2019 season, a proposal has been put forward to change eligible keepers' salaries for the following season to whichever is greater between draft cost and free agent acquisition cost on the waiver wire (Dan). Currently, keeper salaries are based specifically on auction costs and does not consider free agent acquisition costs. – FAIL (57.1% Oppose)

Prize Money

· A proposal has been offered to change prize money allotment to $800 for 1st place, $250 for 2nd place, $100 for 3rd place, and $50 for 4th place (Dan). Currently, prize money is allotted as $800/$200/$125/$75.- FAIL (50% Each)

League Expansion

· Would you be open to the league exploring potential expansion to 16 teams in future season? – NO (50% No; 42.9% Yes; 7.1% Maybe)
